SCIENCE: GIRL WITH EIGHT LIMBS UNDERGOES SURGERY

The little girl named Lakshmi of two years, was born with four arms and four legs after fusing with a "parasitic twin" in the womb. On Tuesday, a team of 30 doctors at the Sparsh Hospital in Bangalore, India, began a marathon surgery to remove her extra parts.
The complicated, risky surgery entails far more than removing Lakshmi's extra limbs. She has two merged spines, four kidneys, entangled
nerves, two stomach cavities and two chest cavities Lakshmi, who is named for the four-armed Hindu goddess of wealth, sits with her mother, Poonam, father, Shambhu, and brother, Mithilesh, Monday.

"Everybody considers her a goddess at our village," Shambhu said.Dr. Sharan Patil talks to Lakshmi at the hospital, where the child is popular among staff and patients."She's very playful and gets along well with others," one doctor said.
